Bento: Just chilling

For some reason every ice block I have ever gotten for my lunches has always sprung a leak. I doesn’t seem to matter how careful I am. It is just a matter of time before its contents will ooze out of its container all over my lunch. So now as soon as I get a new one I put it into a freezer Ziplock® baggie that way when ever it does leak the mess is contained and easily disposed of. It is a good idea to periodically check the baggie for holes or tears from rubbing against lunch containers and silver ware.

  1. I've enjoyed reading your posts on bento boxes. I've been on a similar quest to find a set of containers that could conveniently fit together. Have you looked into the Laptop Lunchbox from www.laptoplunches.com? When I came across it, I thought, "Why hasn't someone thought of this before?" You get five boxes, including one for salad dressing/dipping sauce, that fit in their own tray-like box, which in turn comes with a carrying case. The case has an inside pocket for an ice pack and has some additional outside pockets. The food boxes were a bit smaller than expected, but it's nice to have it all fit together. It's like carrying a portable cafeteria tray. :)

  2. I've seen those and wondered how well they worked size wise.

  3. The larger boxes have a volume of a little more than a cup and the smaller hold almost 3/4 cup. Not too bad; too small for some foods. If you forego the water bottle, you can fit some additional items in plastic bags.
